Renewable Energy Hamburg

Germany has signed up to the energy revolution. In ten years, over 35 percent of German power production will already come from renewable sources such as wind, sun or biogas. During the first half of 2012, renewable energy has exceeded the 25-percent mark for the first time. North Germany will play a key role when it comes to expanding “clean” energy production and transmission. The Hamburg city region, from Cuxhaven to Lübeck, and from Neumünster to Lüneburg, is today already the centre of north German activities. According to a prognosis study on behalf of the EEHH Cluster, around 25,000 people are working in the field of regenerative energy in the region. Companies based in the Hamburg area even anticipate further employment growth of around 40 percent by 2015. In the future, the region will become even more attractive for international investors, too. After all, in 2011, global investment in the sector grew by 17 percent to 257 billion US dollars.
A Network for Pooling Skills
Everywhere in the Hamburg city region, entrepreneurs, scientists and politicians are working to make renewable energy even more of a success. A wide range of industrial and service companies have settled in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. They range from systems and component manufacturers to project management, installation and maintenance firms and companies offering consultation, certification, financing, insurance and logistics, through to energy providers and traders.
The EEHH “Renewable Energy Hamburg” network (or “cluster”) was set up in order to strengthen and promote cooperation in the sector. It works to pool the wide-ranging skills among companies, research facilities and institutions. It also provides a platform for dialogue among stakeholders, and promotes interfaces to other sectors, such as logistics.
